[전시 리뷰] "홈" - 에바 알머슨 , 부산문화회관
“Home” exhibition by Eva Armison, was one of last exhibitions and events held in Busan before most events were shut down due to Covid19 outbreak. I had chance to visit and there and enjoy the colorful unique works. This exhibition was held from December 25, 2019 to April 5, 2020, at Busan Cultural Center (Daeyeon- dong). The artist, Eva Armison came to Busan to set the exhibition and also paint parts of it.
에바 알머슨의 “홈” 전시회는 코로나 사태로 인해 모든 전시가 문을 닫기 전 마지막까지 남아 있던 전시회 중 하나다. 색색깔 독특한 에바 알머슨의 작품을 감상할 기회를 가질 수 있었다. 전시는 2019년 12월 25일부터 202년 4월 5일까지 부산문화 회관(대연동)에서 열렸다. 에바 알머슨은 전시를 준비하고 도시의 일부를 그리기 위해 부산을 찾았다.

Who is Eva Armisén?
She got her degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, completed her training at the Rietveld Akademie in Amsterdam and got a grant from the Joan and Pilar Miró Foundation in Palma de Mallorca. She lives and works in Barcelona.
에바 알머슨은 누구인가?
에바 알머슨은 바르셀로나 대학에서 미술 학위를 받고 암스 테르담 Rietveld 아카데미에서 교육과정을 수료했으며, 팔마데 마요르카 Joan and Pilar Miró 재단의 후원을 받았다. 현재 바르셀로나에 살며 작업을 계속하고 있다.
Her work focuses on capturing daily life and everydayness as something extraordinary, and proposes a vital and optimistic look that takes us to a livable world full of emotion. Painting and engraving are her most common midiums, but the originality and ability to communicate in her work has led Armisén to collaborate on a wide variety of projects such as public art installations, advertising, film and television campaigns and editorial projects. Her first visit to South Korea was a decade ago, and then she became a frequent visitor to Korea, where she has held exhibitions, attended art fairs and also collaborated with a number of brands like Skinfood Cosmetics and Corelle, a home and kitchen brand. Nearly a year after her last exhibition “Beginnings,” which was held in Lotte Avenuel Gallery, and just a few months after her most recent visit to the country to attend the Korea International Art Fair, the 49-year-old artist has returned to meet local fans through “Home,” her largest exhibition ever.
에바 알머슨의 작품은 우리가 이 세상을 감정으로 가득한 살만한 곳으로 느끼도록 생기발랄하고 긍정적인 시선을 통해 일 상적인 순간을 어딘지 특별한 것으로 탈바꿈시킨다. 주된 표현 방식은 회화와 조각이지만 작품이 갖는 독창성과 울림 덕에 공공설치미술, 광고, 영화, TV 캠페인, 에디토리얼 프로젝트 등 수없이 많은 콜라보를 해 오고 있다. 10여년 전 처음 한국을 찾은 에바 알머슨은 이후 자주 한국을 방문하며 전시회를 열고, 아트 페어에 참여하고, 화장품 브랜드 스킨푸드나 부엌용품 브랜드 코렐 등 여러 브랜드와 협업을 진행해 왔다. 거의 1년 전 롯데 에비뉴엘 갤러리에서 열린 “비기닝스(Beginnings)” 전시회가 끝나고 몇 달 뒤 가장 최근 한국국제아트페어에 참가하기 위해 한국을 찾았던 이 49세의 아티스트는 역대 최대 규모의 전시회 “Home”을 통해 국내 팬 을 만나러 다시 한국에 돌아왔다.

This is how she explains her work: There are struggling moments in life. It can’t be joyous all the time,”But I feel the need to put another perspective to the difficult moments in life. There are different point of views in seeing the world, and I try to focus my eyes on hope. I’d like to show people what painting means to me. For me, painting is really like a home and a shelter. I can go back to it every time I need it,”
에바 알머슨은 자신의 작품에 대해 다음과 같이 이야기한다. “살다 보면 힘든 순간들이 있죠. 항상 즐거울 수만은 없습니다. 하지만 저는 삶의 면면을 새로운 방식으로 볼 필요가 있다 고 생각했어요. 세상을 보는 눈은 다양하고, 저는 그 중 희망을 통해 세상을 보려고 노력합니다. 제게 그림이 어떤 의미인지 사람들에게 보여주고 싶어요. 제게 그림은 집이자 안식처입니다. 필요할 때면 언제든 그곳으로 돌아갈 수 있죠.”
What does “home” mean to you?
For me, home has two meanings. The first is painting. I can go back to it every time I need shelter. Painting helps me express my feelings and feel complete. The second means invitation. I want people to feel [welcome] to the exhibition like it’s a home. The exhibition features many years of my work from as early as 1995, and I hope visitors discover new layers [of my art] as well as see the evolution of my work.
This exhibition was supposed to continue until April 5th, but due to the Covid19 outbreak, it stopped running early.
작가님께 “Home”은 어떤 의미인가요?
제게 집이란 두 가지 의미를 갖습니다. 첫 번째는 그림이에요. 안식처가 필요할 때면 언제든 그림을 그릴 수 있죠. 그림을 통해 제 감정을 표현하고 온전해진다는 것을 느낍니다. 두 번째 의미는 초대예요. 전시회가 관람객들을 환영하는 집처럼 느껴지길 바라요. 전시회에는 무려 1995년부터의 작품들이 전시되어 있어요. 관람객들께서 작품을 통해 제 예술을 겹겹이 살펴보고 어떻게 발전해왔는지를 봐주셨으면 좋겠습니다.
+ 전시회는 4월 5일까지로 예정되어 있었으나 코로나 바이러스 사태로 인해 전시가 중단되었다.
