Down south near the end of subway line 1, just east of Hadan station lies the Eulsukdo Sculpture Park. Tucked away on the island is the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA Busan), a fairly recent addition to the Busan art scene.

  Opening on June 16, 2018, the MoCA Busan is a 15,312 square meter museum with four main galleries spread over 5,780 square meters. The museum also has seminar rooms, reference rooms, and a children’s library. The expressed purpose is to create new discourse and education based on contemporary art trends and social context.

  MoCA Busan has plans to provide activities to help acquaint residents of Busan with contemporary art and help provide a template for the future by showing artworks that address New Media, the Environment, and the Nature of Humanity. It will provide a forum for experimentation and be a place where patrons can explore the changing circumstances of the present and how they will affect society.

  The museum offered two opening exhibits《Vertical Garden》by Patrick Blanc and《Yourself is sometimes a place to call your own》by Tobias Rehberger. Vertical garden is a building façade of living plants that covers nearly the entirety of the building. This garden incorporates 175 species of Korean native plants and gives the building an interesting look that helps it blend into the green space of the island. This helps the museum achieve a viewer-friendly look from the approach. The exhibit by Rehberger explores the changes in genre and creative media. It aims to be a representative platform of the media. A combination between flat and sculptural art, Rehberger’s art is both complex and intriguing, causing the viewer to explore thought provoking ideas.

  지하철 1호선 끝, 하단역보다 더 동쪽으로 을숙도 조각공원이 있다. 을숙도에 새로운 현대미술의 바람이 분다. 바로 부산현대미술관(Busan Museum of Contemporary Art; Busan MoCA)이다.

  2018년 6월 16일 개관 부산현대미술관은 15,000제곱미터에 넘는 공간에, 5,780 제곱미터가 넘는 네 개의 전시장을 보유하고 있으며, 세미나실, 회의실, 어린이 도서관도 있다. 부산현대미술관은 현대미술의 트렌드를 불러 일으키고, 새로운 담론 생성과 예술 교육을 위해 만들어졌다.

  미술관에는 영상, 소리, 빛을 활용한 국내·외 설치작품들이 전시되어있다. 이러한 뉴미디어 아트와 설치 그리고 환경과 관계된 작품들은 앞으로 전개될 부산현대미술관의 정체성과 방향을 가늠해 볼 수 있게 한다. 전시는 ‘자연·뉴미디어·인간’ 을 중심으로 한 미술관의 방향성을 제시함과 동시에 우리 사회의 단면을 돌아보고, 다가올 미래를 전망하며 새로운 시대가 요구하는 예술의 의미를 깊이 살피는 미술관의 지향점을 담아낸다.

  부산현대미술관은 패트릭 블랑의 《수직 정원》 과 토비아스 레베르거의 《Yourself is sometimes a place to call your own》을 개관전으로 기획했다. 수직 정원은 살아있는 식물이 건물 전체를 뒤덮는 모양이다. 이 식물들은 한국에 자생하는 175종의 식물로, 을숙도의 녹지와 절묘하게 어우러진다. 덕분에 관람객들이 미술관에 보다 친숙하게 다가갈 수 있는 경관을 갖추게 되었다. 토비아스 레베르거의 전시는 작품의 장르를 넘나들며 공간 플랫폼으로서도 기능을 한다. 회화와 조각을 결합한 매력적인 설치 작품을 통해 작가는 관객들이 샘솟는 아이디어를 경험하도록 한다.

  The museum’s previous exhibitions include the Busan Biennale 2018, titled《Divided We Stand》, which hoped to produce real discourse about the problems we all face.

  MoCA Busan also boasts an impressive Children’s Art Library. The collections are spread over nine categories: Exhibition books, Non-education books, the World of Books, Artist’s Writings, Local Authors, Award Winners, Classic Korean and Foreign Fairy Tales, Books about Me, and he Outside World. In order to use the library, patrons must reserve a space in order to ensure a suitable reading environment for the children.

  The Children’s Art Library also hosts programs for children and include The Curious Garden, a tie into the Vertical Garden to help children see ways that humans and nature can coexist in a modern city. Also, the library offers Korean newsletter to help parents find out more about upcoming programs that will be help by the Children’s Art Library.

  부산현대미술관은 9월부터는 2018부산비엔날레 《비록 떨어져 있어도 Divided We Stand》를 개최한 바 있다. 

  미술관 내의 어린이예술도서관도 인상적이다. 도서관은 ▲기획 서가 ▲열린 서가 ▲책의 세계 ▲예술가의 글 ▲우리 동네 작가 ▲수상작 ▲옛날이야기 ▲나 ▲바깥세상 이라는 9개의 카테고리로 구성되어 있다. 도서관을 이용하려는 관람객들은 반드시 사전 예약을 해야 한다.

  어린이예술도서관에서는 수직정원과 연계하여 어린이들이 인간과 자연이 현대 도시에서 어떻게 어우러져 살 수 있는지 를 배우는 '수상한 정원' 등 다양한 어린이 프로그램을 열고 있었다. 또한 어린이 예술 도서관에서 진행될 프로그램에 대해 보다 더 잘 알 수 있는 뉴스레터(한국어만 제공)도 제공된다.

  MoCA Busan is a cultural hub in West-Busan, providing a much-needed art space in that region. Because of its location on the Eulsukdo Island, the museum boasts spectacular views of the surrounding wildlife estuary. Located next to the Eulsukdo Cultural Center and the Nakdonggang Bird Sacturary, it provides the perfect afternoon outing.

  The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10A.M. to 6P.M. To get there from Hadan station take bus number 3, 55, 58, 58-1, 58-2, 168, 221, 520, or Gangseogu town bus number 3, 7, 9-1, 9-2, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20 or 21. Parking is not free but open from 9A.M. to 7P.M. Admission is free although some exhibitions require ticket purchase.   부산현대미술관은 화요일부터 일요일 오전 10시부터 오후 6시까지 개관한다. 하단역에서 3, 55, 58, 58-1, 58-2, 168, 221, 520번 버스를 타거나 강서구 마을버스 3, 7, 9-1, 9-2, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21를 타고 갈 수 있다. 주차장은 유료이며 오전 9시부터 오후 7시까지 운영된다. 입장료는 대부분 무료이나 몇몇 전시는 유료이다.
