Liquid Arts Writing Workshop

The Liquid Art Writing Workshop in its current incarnation is a Zoom-based monthly gathering of writers dedicated to fostering community and honing craft. Writers of all disciplines, spanning poetry, short fiction, memoir, script writing, among others, bring their own insights and unique backgrounds to offer constructive criticism and literary growth. If you are interested in joining the conversation, please follow Liquid Arts Network in Facebook for updates on the next meeting. The following are microfiction submissions from regular group participants.

Untitled (Jenna Raef)

I don’t expect you to believe my story. I’m not even sure if I believe it, and I’m the one it happened to.
Sometimes, when I have a bad dream, I’ll wake up and I’ll just lie in the dark with my eyes still closed, thinking about how I’ll have to live with this horrible thing for the rest of my life because I don’t realize it’s a dream yet. That’s kind of how I feel right now. Like I’m lying in the dark with my eyes closed, just waiting to open them so I can feel stupid for ever thinking any of this was real. The only problem is, my eyes are open now, and she’s still here.

The crane’s neck hovered, dangling a lace and bar of steel over resting mound. What dreams may escape as sighs as the earth is turned over, spilling desires that once long ago we’ve buried. Bones dissolved to phantasms, tending to us as we go on about this gray day which understands the dizzying heights to come, yet whose brow furrows and constricts anyway, blessing infertile land with patterings of rain. Of past promise. This village that once sheltered laughter. The neck descends to kiss the earth, weaving its spell in lattice and steel and pipe. Echoes now, all. Good night.

Fix It In Post (Adam Keller)

The first Hollywood movie filmed on the moon got great reviews. Audiences loved the cinematography and low-gravity stunts. Then people started to notice little inconsistencies. YouTubers with too much time on their hands found misplaced stars. The clouds on Earth didn’t match the shooting schedule’s weather reports. People were outraged! All that hype, and they faked everything. “Okay, you’re right,” said the film’s director. “We used CGI, but we did go to the moon. The original footage had problems. Trust me, you don’t want to see it. Something up there doesn’t like to be filmed.
