New Exchange Model in the post-COVID-19 era

COVID-19 has hammered human interactions and exchanges worldwide. Busan Foundation for International Cooperation (BFIC) is making efforts to find sustainable exchange models and upgrade the cultural exchange paradigm with the new but innovative method for current situation with COVID-19. There have been fundamental restrictions to international exchanges and development cooperation due to COVID-19 limiting international travel. BFIC is promptly switching over to untact programs in response to the situation. Although many festivals and events are being canceled worldwide due to COVID-19, BFIC is concerned about the deterioration Busan’s international image which has been formed over a long period of time, and survival of its partner companies in Busan. With that in mind, BFIC continues to support business trying new models of operation in the current situation.

BFIC sent K-quarantine supplies to countries (Myanmar,Cambodia) where volunteers’ entry was restricted due to COVID-19 and Korean Culture Kits to countries (Indonesia, Surabaya) that weren’t able to get invited, to let them experience Korean culture through the kits. ‘Study in Korea Online Education Fair with Busan Metropolitan City’ was successfully completed last September which was held to attract global talent and foreign students to Busan. The fair was to be held abroad, but it took place online in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions. With universities in Busan as the only participants, the fair raises hopes for practical outcomes to attract international students to Busan. The biggest and most representative multi-cultural festival in Busan, Global Gathering, was held online this year (Oct. 11 ~ Nov.10). You can still access the VR system to experience traditional clothes, instruments, or materials from the participating countries, and enjoy videos of the traditional performances, cooking, and more on the website ( http://www.globalgathering.co.kr )

Finally, World Peace Forum (Oct. 29) was held with the goal of improving the city of Busan brand and empowering the local government. The theme was SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), and the role of the local governments working jointly with Busan Metropolitan City. The following content will discuss Global Gathering and World Peace Forum in more details. The current circumstances suggest that the COVID-19 era is unlikely to end soon, so BFIC will persevere with its attempt to find sustainable international exchange models in response to the post-COVID-19 era.
