부산국제어린이청소년영화제(BIKY)
The 15th edition of the Busan International Kids & Youth Film Festival (BIKY) will take place July 7th-13th 2020, at the Busan Cinema Center in Centum City (as well as to- be-announced venues in Buk-gu and Jung-gu). As Asia’s biggest and longest-running festival dedicated to children and families, BIKY showed 176 films last year (including 61 premieres) and welcomed about 600 guests from 22 countries. Screening Korean and international films of all durations, the program includes the Competition “Ready~Action!” (presenting short films made by young directors in three age groups: 6-12, 13-15, 16-18), and the Non-Competition section with seven theme-specific programs (“Staying Together”, “Embrace the Difference”, “Reborn the BIKY”, etc).
제 15회 부산국제어린이청소년영화제(BIKY)가 2020년 7월 7일부터 13일까지 센텀시티 부산 영화의 전당(북구 및 중구에서도 상영 장소가 공개될 예정)에서 열린다. 어린이와 가족을 위한 아시아 최대 규모이자 최장 역사를 자 랑하는 영화제인만큼, 작년에는 22개국에서 660명이 넘 는 게스트와 함께 176개 작품(61개 프리미어 포함)이 상영되었다. 분량과 상관없이 국내외 영화를 상영하는 이 영화 제에는 경쟁부문 “레디~ 액션!”(6-12세, 13-15세, 16-18세 그룹에 속한 젊은 감독들의 단편영화 상영)과 7개의 테마 가 있는 비경쟁부문(“너와 더불어”, “다름 안에서”, “리본 더비키(Reborn the BIKY)” 등이 있다.

BIKY is also strongly dedicated to improving film education by running year-round programs with young students who live in Busan - mainly elementary school students - and by holding the BIKY Forum during the actual festival week with invited, worldwide education experts. Meanwhile, with the newly-introduced program “Film & Fun”, kindergarten, elementary students and their families can enjoy more active screenings in which they are encouraged to jump, shout and talk! BIKY also ensures a more hands-on approach to learning filmmaking via “Cinema Sports”, in which elementary school students can discover how to make their own films within a day, from filming to screening. Aimed at youth, the more advanced “Camp” program gathers participants from Korea and abroad who are selected after submitting a specific online application. It runs during the whole festival week with cinema lessons dispensed in English by film professionals.
At BIKY, children aren’t just meant to be audience members but participants through multiple workshops and activities, and also within the festival’s organization and programming team itself (choosing films in pre- selection, moderating Q&As with attending filmmakers of the “Ready~Action!” section…). The festival even has a special committee of young advisers called “BIKies”, mostly youth from Busan but also a few young professional actors such as Lee Re (from the TV drama Memories of the Alhambra), Kim Ah Song (from the movie Bori), or Lee Jiwon (from the TV drama Sky Castle), the latter having even hosted the festival’s Opening Ceremony! 부산국제어린이청소년영화제는 연중 내내 부산에 사는 학생들을 대상으로 영화 교육에 힘써 왔다. 참가 학생 대부 분은 초등학생이고, 실제 영화제 기간 동안에는 세계적인 교육 전문가들을 초청해 BIKY 포럼도 열린다. 한편 새롭게 도입된 프로그램 “Film & Fun”에서는 유치원생과 초등학생 및 가족들이 점프를 하거나 소리를 지르고 이야기를 하며 적극적으로 영화를 관람할 수도 있다! 영화제에서는 하루 동안 초등학생들이 제작부터 상영까지 스스로 영화를 만드는 법을 직접 배울 수 있는 “시네마 스포츠”도 경험할 수 있다. 청소년 대상으로는 미리 온라인 신청으로 선발된 국내외 참가자들을 위한 심화된 “캠프” 프로그램이 있다. 영화제 기간 내내 진행되는 이 캠프에서는 영화 전문가들 이 영어로 영화 레슨을 진행한다. 부산국제어린이청소년영화제에서 어린이들은 단순한 관객이 아니라 다양한 워크샵과 액티비티 참여는 물론이고 축제 주최기관과 프로그래밍팀(상영작 사전선발, “레디~ 액션!” 섹션에 참여하는 영화제작자들과 함께하는 Q&A 진 행 등)에서 직접 활동할 수도 있다.
