  “I first lived in “P”usan from 1997-1999, and back then, Pusan really was the wild East. There was no such thing as Centum or Marine City, but we had the crossroads in PNU, the U.S. Army Camp Hialeah, the Legion and the Dallas Club Pusan was full of really fun orange tents called pojangmacha (soju bangs), and speaking of orange, the orange subway line was it. Things were a lot cheaper, but I also got Delhi belly more often. Fast forward to 2007, Pusan became "B"usan. Then in 2014, when I returned yet again, I really felt like Busan had grown up, modernized or become more international, call it what it may be. Things got a lot quieter on the subways and streets, prices went up, soju bangs became much harder to find, but the people, at the heart of Busan, became much more welcoming of international people. Be it giving directions, helping out at the phone store, bank, or work, life became much more manageable here. I've lived in several Asian countries, but my wife, Carol and I, chose to come back to Busan. I love Busan so much, I even gave free tours of our city for three years. I can foresee many wonderful things ahead in Busan and with the Busan Beat.”

  “1997년부터 1999년까지 처음 “P”usan에 살았어요. 당시 Pusan은 정말 야생적인 도시였죠. 센텀시티이나 마린시티 같은 도시 대신, 부산대 교차로, 하야리아 미군 부대, Legion, 그리고 the Dallas Club이 있었죠. Pusan은 포장마차(소주방)라고 불리는 오렌지색 텐트들이 즐비했고…. 오렌지색에 대해서 말하자면, 그래요! 오렌지색 지하철 노선, 1호선이 있었죠. 물가는 낮았지만, 설사도 자주 했어요. 2007년 돌아왔을 때, “P”usan은 “B”usan이 되었어요. 그리고 2014년에 또 다시 돌아왔을 때, Busan이 정말 성장 하고 현대화 되었고 글로벌 도시가 되었다고 느꼈어요. 지하철과 거리는 훨씬 조용해졌고, 물가는 올랐으며, 포장마차들은 찾기 어려워졌지만, 사람들은 외국인에 관대해졌죠. 휴대폰 판매점, 은행, 직장에서 도움 받는 것도 수월해졌고, Busan 사람들의 친절함이 타지 생활은 버틸 수 있게 해주었어요. 아시아의 여러 국가에서 살아봤지만, 저와 제 아내 캐롤은 Busan으로 돌아오기로 결정했어요. Busan을 많이 사랑하기 때문이죠. 3년간 외국인들을 위해 Busan 투어를 무료로 운영하기도 했어요. Busan에서 Busan Beat와 함께 할 앞으로 많은 멋진 일들이 기대됩니다.”
