The What and Who of F.A.B.(Food Appreciators of Busan)

F.A.B (부산 미식회)

“Food is ~?”
- Food is a need for daily living.
- Food is a chance for enjoying happy leisure time with good company.
- Food is an open opportunity to learn a new culture.
- Food is a thing with many meanings and purposes for each individual.

 F.A.B….Here is how it happened!

One day, two men who are interested in food met and talked. “There are so many international parties and language exchange groups around Busan. So how come we can’t find any food Meetups?” “Then, why don’t we make a foodie group?” So we made F.A.B.: Food Appreciators of
Busan. Since starting the F.A.B. in March, 2017, we had a desire to share, learn, and experience the entire spectrum of food for both ourselves and other fellow foodies.

F.A.B.(Food Appreciators of Busan / 부산 미식회)가 탄생했다. 2017년 3월 7일 F.A.B.

So, what kind of meeting events do we do in F.A.B?
그렇다면 F.A.B.

1. Potluck Parties

One of the two main, and perhaps unique, events we do is our potluck party. In this event, friends from different countries make their own foods and gather together to share the eats as well as friendly conversation. While enjoying delicious homemade dishes is a plus, definitely the thought of sharing one’s talents for making anything is the punch line. Simple or extravagant, the chance of sharing a dish with new people while enjoying it together is what we like most about hosting these potluck parties.

2. Cooking Classes

Hosting small group cooking classes is another popular event that we like, especially for those who don’t know how to cook well, but are interested in learning simple, but unique types of food. While we do create these cooking classes based mostly on themes and holidays, occasionally we get requests to teach a certain kind of dish that will try out.

3. Activities

Along with our two main food events, we do our best to create other activities and one-day field trips related to local foods in Busan. Sometimes we go to a famous local restaurant and do some sightseeing. We call that matjip... exploring. Other times we go to food exhibitions or visit local farms and tour around together. We call those food hunting adventures.

So, how can anyone join our group? If you have an interest for anything involving food, cooking, or some form of food hunting, then please join! Young or old, local or expat living in Korea, a beginner or professionally skilled chef, we welcome anyone who wants to learn and participate. People can definitely check us out on our Meetup page. https://www.meetup.com/F-A-B-Food-Appreciators-of-Busan/
