The cold, harsh Korean winter weather is nearly over and spring brings welcome warmth. As we start to unravel our scarves, what better way to celebrate than enjoying the soft petals that drift from the cherry blossom trees? Busan has many beautiful and diverse places to view the blossoms so cameras at the ready to capture some of this fleeting beauty.
The blossoms are due to be at their best between March 26 and April 2 this year so plan ahead so you don’t miss the chance to see them!
차고 매서운 한국의 겨울은 끝자락에 접어들고 따뜻한 봄바람이 불어오기 시작한다. 겨울 옷을 벗어 던지기 시작한 이 봄에, 하늘거리며 떨어지는 벚꽃을 만끽할 수 있는 더 좋은 방법이 있을까? 부산에는 아름다운 벚꽃놀이 명소가 많이 있다. 찰나의 아름다움을 담을 수 있도록 늘 카메라를 준비해 둘 것.
올해 벚꽃은 3월 26일에서 4월 2일 사이 절정에 달할 것으로 보인다. 그러니 미리 계획을 세워 벚꽃놀이 시기를 놓치지 않도록 하자!

Dalmaji-gil Road, Haeundae-gu
해운대구, 달맞이길
Dalmaji-gil, a.k.a. Moontan Road, is one of the most popular places to go and view the blossoms. Bus no.100 can be caught from Haeundae subway station to the bottom of the main road that winds up the hill. Voyeurs can then walk up the road to take in the stunning ocean views and get those all-important shots of the petals. If and when you need to take a break, the cafés and restaurants that are dotted up the hill and at the top, will provide you with a welcome place to rest. Bakeries with open terraces allow a pleasant platform to sit and enjoy the scenery of the sea and forest below. The top of the hill is accessible by car or taxi and if you are feeling energetic, it can also be an enjoyable bike ride.
문탠로드라고도 알려져 있는 달맞이길은 가장 인기 있는 벚꽃놀이 명소 중 하나다. 해운대역에서 100번 버스를 타면 된다. 언덕을 올라가다 보면 환상적인 바다와 아름다운 벚꽃터널이 펼쳐진다. 휴식이 필요하면 카페와 식당에서 편안한 시간을 보낼 수도 있다. 베이커리의 오픈 테라스에 앉아 바로 아래에 바다와 숲이 만들어내는 절경을 감상하는 것도 좋다. 언덕 꼭대기는 자동차나 택시로 올라갈 수 있고, 에너지가 넘친다면 자전거를 타고 올라갈 수도 있다.

Samik Beach Apt., Suyeong-gu

Gwangalli’s main location to go and see the blossoms is situated between the Samik Beach Apartments that were built in the 70s. Its location is to the right of Gwangalli Beach which is one of the most accessible beaches in Busan due to its fairly central location. The well-established cherry blossom trees line the main road cutting through the middle of the apartment blocks but there is also a smaller, quieter road in the apartment complex that has the larger collection of these well-established trees. It is one of the more urban locations to view the blossoms but the tunnel of trees still makes for a magical experience. After taking the subway to Geumnyeonsan Station, you need to walk about ten minutes to reach the beach and then it is just a short walk to get to the apartments. This particular location might not be here for much longer if the developers get their way as it is due to be demolished to make way for a new apartment complex.
광안리에서 가장 유명한 벚꽃놀이 명소는 1970년대에 건설된 삼익비치아파트 골목이다. 거의 부산 중앙에 위치해 접근성이 좋은 바닷가 중 하나인 광안리해수욕장 바로 오른쪽에 위치하고 있다. 아파트 건물 사이 중앙 도로에도, 아파트 단지 내부의 작고 조용한 골목에도 벚나무가 잘 조성되어 있다. 도심의 많은 벚꽃 스팟 중 한 곳이지만, 삼익비치아파트의 벚꽃터널에 들어서면 어쩐지 마법의 세계에 온 것 같은 기분이 든다. 지하철을 타고 금련산역으로 가서 광안리해수욕장 방면으로 10분 정도 걸어가면, 광안리 해수욕장부터 삼익비치아파트까지는 걸어서 금방이다. 삼익비치아파트는 조만간 재개발되어 새로운 아파트 단지가 들어설 예정이라, 이 벚꽃 스팟을 즐길 수 있는 날도 얼마 남지 않았는지도 모른다.

Hwangnyeonsan (Geumnyeonsan), Suyeong-gu
수영구, 황령산(금련산)
Hwangnyeonsan is one of my favourite blossom viewing spots because it involves a scenic hike up a mountain. Blossoms line the long winding road that leads you up Hwangnyeon Mountain but there are also spots to view the blossoms off the road itself, that is if you are willing to explore. Near the top of the mountain, you can see amazing views of the ocean and Gwangalli Bridge. In addition to the many established cherry blossom trees, it’s a lovely place to have a picnic as there are an abundance of picnic tables and seating areas. This location is also accessible from Geumnyeonsan Station; however, it involves a longer, 20-30 minutes hike to reach the blossoms.
황령산은 내가 가장 좋아하는 벚꽃놀이 명소 중 하나다. 멋진 풍경과 함께 하이킹을 즐길 수 있는 곳이기 때문이다. 황령산을 오르는 길에는 벚나무가 줄지어 늘어서 있고, 길에서 약간 벗어난 곳에서도 만개한 벚꽃을 볼 수 있다. 산 정상 근처에는 광안리 바다와 광안대교가 만들어내는 절경을 감상할 수 있다. 벚꽃길이 잘 조성되어 있는데다 피크닉 테이블과 의자도 많다. 금련산역에서 출발해도 되지만 벚꽃을 보려면 20~30분 정도 걸어야하는 하이킹 코스를 지나야 한다.

Oncheoncheon Stream, Dongnae-gu

Oncheoncheon Stream which flows down from Geumjeong Mountain provides an excellent venue to see the blossoms as well as view other blooms such as the vibrant rapeseed flowers. Catch the subway to Dongnae Station to enjoy the more natural part of the stream where you can hop on rock steps to cross the water and spot paddling ducks along the way. After taking in the beautiful flora and fauna, there are a string of restaurants and cafés adjacent to the stream on the stretch of path between Yeonsan-dong and Allak-dong. It is known as the ‘Oncheoncheon Café Street’ and it makes a fine destination to walk towards if you would like to stop for a coffee, a bite to eat, or even have a few beers. Consider also going after sunset to enjoy how the streetlights illuminate the blossoms into a fluffy romantic canopy.
금정산 아래로 흐르는 온천천은 벚꽃, 유채꽃 등 각양각색의 다양한 꽃을 감상할 수 있다. 동래역에서부터 온천천을 따라 걸으면 중간중간 징검다리를 건널수도 물장구치는 오리들을 만날 수도 있다. 동식물들을 감상하다 보면 연산동과 안락동 사이 온천천을 따라 늘어선 식당들과 카페들을 마주치게 된다. ‘온천천 카페거리’로 알려진 이곳에서는 커피나 간단한 식사는 물론, 가볍게 맥주를 즐기는 것도 좋다. 일몰 후에는 카페거리의 조명과 어우러지는 또 다른 밤의 벚꽃을 만끽할 수 있다.

If you can’t choose which place to go to then how about visiting as many of these places as possible? A bus tour called, ‘Busan City Tour’ is a ‘hop on, hop off’ service that circles around the city. Buses run every 30 minutes and you can choose which locations you would like to explore. This service will take you to Dalmaji-gil, Gwangalli, Hwangnyeonsan Mountain as well as many more. It is the most economical way of getting around the city and you are able to get a good view from the top deck of the bus.
어디를 가야 할지 모르겠다면 최대한 많은 장소에 가보는 것은 어떨까? 자유롭게 타고 내릴 수 있는 ‘부산시티투어’ 버스를 타고 부산을 한 바퀴 도는 것이다. 30분 간격으로 운행되는 이 버스는 달맞이길, 광안리, 황령산 등 부산 내 원하는 곳을 선택해 둘러볼 수 있다. 부산 투어를 가장 효과적으로 할 수 있는 부산시티투어버스는 부산의 멋진 경관을 감상할 수 있도록 2층도 마련되어 있다.
