“Walk Around the World” - Global Gathering
“걸어서 지구 한 바퀴” - 제13회 세계인과 함께하는 어울마당
In Busan, there are nearly 60,000 foreign residents from countries in Asia, Europe, America and other places. To commemorate 'Global Busan' and to bring cultures together, a global culture festival is held where local citizens and foreign residents can communicate their cultures. The festival is called 'the Global Gathering' and it is organized annually by Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Foundation for International Cooperation to celebrate the ‘Together Day’ (May 20).
The Global Gathering 2018 was organized by Busan Metropolitan City, the Busan International Foundation, the Busan Immigration Office, and ASEAN Culture House. It took place on May 20, 2018 from 10am to 5pm at the APEC Naru Park in Busan.
The festival theme this year was 'Walk Around the World'. 103 teams from 41 countries participated in the fair and ran the 130 booths consisting of flea markets and others offering a variety of activities. Also, there were a number of interesting programs such as parades offered by foreign communities and international performance teams, ASEAN Zone was run by ASEAN Culture House. There were also a Global Flea Market and an international costume try-on booth. The programs with activities were particularly popular. Consulate generals and mayors from nearby cities also attended and enjoyed the event.
One of the organizers of the Global Gathering said, "About 60,000 foreign students, marriage migrants and foreign employees live in Busan. I hope this festival can be an opportunity for Busan citizens to learn how to live in harmony with other international residents and understand the meaning of living together.
I realized there is such a large variety of foreign communities in the city by attending this festival. I hope that more and more programs and festivals for foreigners will be held in 'Global Busan' and that foreign residents with different nationalities and local citizens would have many opportunities to understand each other's cultures and communicate with each other more.
부산에 거주하는 외국인 수는 6만 여명에 이르며, 아시아, 유럽, 미주 등 출신 지역도 매우 다양하다. ‘글로벌 부산’을 기념하고 다양한 각국의 문화를 한 자리에 모아 부산시민들과 외국인 거주자들이 서로 소통하는 글로벌 문화 축제가 있다. 바로 부산국제교류재단이 매년 부산광역시와 함께 세계인의 날(5월 20일)을 기념하여 개최하는 ‘세계인과 함께하는 어울마당’이다.
부산광역시와 부산국제교류재단, 부산출입국˙외국인청, 아세안문화원이 공동 주최한 ‘제13회 세계인과 함께하는 어울마당(Global Gathering 2018)‘은 5월 20일 오전 10시부터 오후 5시까지 APEC 나루공원에서 성황리에 마무리되었다.
이번 어울마당 행사는 “걸어서 지구 한바퀴”라는 주제 아래 41개국 103개 국가‧단체가 참가하여 홍보와 프리마켓, 체험존 등 총 부스 130개동을 운영하였다. 부스 운영 이외에도 외국인 유학생 커뮤니티와 다양한 국가 출신의 공연단이 참여하는 세계인과 함께하는 퍼레이드, 아세안문화원이 운영하는 아세안 특별존, 글로벌 프리마켓, 각국 전통의상 체험 등 다양한 프로그램들이 운영되었는데, 시민들이 직접 체험할 수 있는 프로그램들이 특히 인기를 끌었다. 시민들과 함께 주한외국공관장, 자매도시 시장 등 주요 내빈들도 참석하여 글로벌 축제를 함께 즐겼다.
부산국제교류재단 어울마당 담당자는 “부산에는 유학생, 결혼이민자, 근로자 등 약 6만 명 이상의 외국인 주민이 살고 있다. 이번 세계인과 함께하는 어울마당을 통해 부산시민과 외국인 주민이 더불어 살아가는 방법을 배우고, 상호공존의 의미를 이해할 수 있는 기회가 되기를 바란다.”고 말했다.
이번 축제에 참가하며 지역 내 이렇게도 다양한 외국인 커뮤니티가 있다는 사실을 알게 되었다. 더 많은 외국인들을 위한 프로그램과 페스티벌이 ‘글로벌 부산’에서 개최되어 다양한 국적의 외국인 주민과 부산 시민이 서로의 문화를 이해하며 소통하고 교류할 수 있는 장을 마련되기를 바란다.
