Learnings from the 11th #Busan_Global_Friends

Busan Global Friends is a representative global volunteering group in Busan that sent to sister cities by Busan and BFIC since 2009. Dispatching 127 members to Yangon, Myanmar in July and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in August, BFIC has sent 957 members to 5 cities through 18 projects so far.

#Self_reflection #반성

I thought there would be only fun in voluntary work. I was sure that I prepared everything, but nothing worked as I expected on the field. It was frustrating at the beginning, but I found myself struggling with everyday life. ‘The world never goes as expected!’ The phrase I took no heed of was completely taught this time.

#Smiling_angels #미소천사

To me, Myanmar is a country of smiling angels. The photos I took in Myanmar remind me of their beautiful and warm smiles instead of the hard times. I was full of concerns and worries at the beginning of the project. Children’s smile will always raise me up whenever I face hardships.

The born-to-be Gyeongsang provinces people who are not familiar with expression couldn’t help saying “I love you! (ChitDe)” in Myanmar every day. The beautiful eyes and smiles of the children brought the expression very easily out of my mouth. It still feels my heart with warmth to think about the kids. I want to hug them saying “ChitDe” again.

Q) What was the most supporting word in Myanmar?

RaPa! It’s an abbreviation of “Ramyeon Party.” The members cheered me up by saying “RaPa is waiting for us! Cheer up!” whenever I felt like I couldn’t make it. Amazingly, the word actually supported me a lot.
- Seung-A @Arts team

"I’m very proud of you," Captain Hong encouraged us. Captain’s word brought me huge comfort and courage, breaking all my concerns and worries about myself.
- Han-Gyeol @Health care team

Hugs and warm hellos to strangers. Every day was full of joy and delight.
- Eun-Jin @Physical education team

#Vast_plains #광활함

I have never seen such vast plains and skies in my life. The open sky and land got rid of all my concerns. Again, I’d like to thank you for this experience in a totally new environment.

#Innocence #순박함

Mongolia was full of kindness. They gladly gave us the most valuable things on a home visit. It is impossible not to mention how innocent the children are. I still can recall their innocent smiles vividly.

Q) What has changed after the Busan Global Friends?

I often look up into the sky missing the open sky in Mongolia. I want to be a meaningful person to anybody, anywhere, regarding what I have as a blessing.
- Ye-Eun @Science & Health care team

I get into taking a close look at children I encounter. I would look at their face and smile with them. I learned that volunteering is not something you would do to show off, but to share your hearts with others.
- Ju-Eun @Art team
