The 2019 Eurasia Expedition was successfully over. The expedition of 56 participants, including citizens and specialists in Busan, has been on the journey through 10 cities in 5 countries, China, Mongolia, Russia, Poland and Germany, for 24 nights and 25 days from July 17 to August 10.

  Crossing the expansive land of Eurasia by train and borders by land during and throughout the hot summer days, the members share their memorable moments.  

  2019 유라시아 시민대장정이 무사히 막을 내렸다. 부산 청년, 시민, 전문가 등 56명의 단원들이 참여한 이번 대장정은 지난 7월 17일부터 8월 10일까지 24박 25일 동안 중국, 몽골, 러시아, 폴란드, 독일 등 5개국 10개 도시를 경유하며 총 12,218km의 여정을 다녀왔다.

  드넓은 유라시아 대륙에서 한국에서는 겪어보지 못하는 기차로 대륙을 횡단하고, 육로로 국경선을 통과한 뜨거운 여름을 보낸 단원들. 그들의 기억에 남는 순간들은?

Q1) Why did you apply for 'the 2019 Eurasia Expedition? 

Q1) '2019 유라시아 시민대장정'에 지원하게 된 계기는?

  I like traveling, I've always wanted to take the Trans-Siberian Express. After finishing my military service early this year, I caught the notice for recruiting participants of the Eurasia Expedition on the online Korean community of my school I’m studying at.

  여행을 좋아해서 언젠가는 꼭 드넓은 유라시아를 횡단하는 시베리아 열차를 타보고 싶었어요. 올해 초 군 복무를 마친 후, 제가 유학 중인 대학의 한국인 커뮤니티에서 “유라시아 시민대장정” 대외활동 공지를 접하게 되었어요. - KIM Dong-Hyeok

  When I was a university student, I hoped to experience as much as I can. But working life wasn't not as happy as I expected. It was tough and repetitive. I needed something new and the Eurasia Expedition was one of my challenges. The expedition was continuous and meaningful experiences. We celebrated the 100th anniversary of the 1919 Independence Movement and promoted Busan as the starting point of the Eurasia Trans-Siberian Railway on the train heading for Germany, a great example of unification.

  불과 몇 년 전, 대학생 때는 하고 싶고 할 수 있었던 일들로 가득 차 있었는데, 직장 생활을 시작한 후로 힘들고 반복되는 일상으로 많이 지쳐있었어요. 단조로운 일상에 변화를 원했고, 유라시아 시민대장정은 새로운 도전 중 하나였죠. 단원으로 대장정에 참여하는 것은 3.1운동 100주년을 기념하고, 타국에 부산을 유라시아 대륙횡단 철도의 출발점으로 홍보하고, 통일의 본보기가 될 수 있는 독일에 기차를 타고 가는 것 등 너무도 의미 있고 멋진 일들의 연속이었습니다. - PARK Eun-Ji

  I’m majoring in Korean music at art college. I believed 'the 2019 Eurasia Expedition’ would be the best way to practice what I have learned. The 25 day-long nongovernmental diplomacy of Busan citizens was very new and attractive for me.

  저는 예술대학에서 한국음악을 전공하고 있어요. ‘2019 유라시아 시민대장정‘이라면 제 전공을 필요한 곳에 잘 활용할 수 있을 것 같았습니다. 무려 24박 25일 동안 부산의 청년들과 시민들이 민간외교 활동을 펼친다는 것이 낯설면서도 매력적으로 느껴졌어요. 게다가 그 안에 문화예술 분야가 있는 것을 보고 고민 없이 지원하게 되었죠. - LEE You-Rim

  I remember every moment, but I would say that watching video and looking back on our route at the ‘Busan-Berlin Friendship and Peace Concert.’ I was deeply touched when the panorama of the expedition came to my mind at the end of the concert. It was like a movie of our stories!

  모든 순간이 기억에 남지만, 베를린에서 ‘부산-베를린 친선 평화 음악회’에서 우리가 지나온 길을 회상하는 영상을 보았을 때가 가장 기억에 남아요. 음악회가 막을 내릴 때 매 순간순간 기억들이 하나하나 파노라마처럼 지나가서 울컥하더군요. 마치 단원들과 우리의 이야기가 담긴 영화 한 편을 완성한 기분이었습니다. - KIM Min-Sung

  The train from Bejing to Ulaanbaataar was the most memorable. It was only the 7th day of the expedition, but I was exhausted by the tight schedule and concerns about what I can do during this long journey. The 27 hours inside the train heading for Mongolia from Beijing gave me a chance to look back on myself and what to do as a member this Eurasia Expedition. 

  중국 베이징에서 몽골 울란바토르까지 열차를 타고 이동했던 순간이요! 7일차 밖에 안 되었을 때였지만, 바쁜 일정과 내 역할에 대한 고민으로 지쳐있었어요. 그래서 베이징에서 몽골로 이동하는 열차 안에서의 27시간은 내가 이 유라시아 시민대장정에서 어떤 역할을 해야 하는지 나를 돌아보고 정리할 수 있는 시간이었습니다. - LEE You-Rim

   It was the most impressive moment that we went to the Patriot Ahn Jung Geun Memorial Hall in Harbin. I had mingled feelings to see what I had seen only in a book before. Asking myself ‘Could I be as courageous as he was?’ I was so grateful for every sacrifice and blood shed for Korea. It also inspired me to promote Korea through this Eurasia Expedition.

   하얼빈에서 안중근 의사 기념관을 방문했던 것이 가장 인상적이었습니다. 책에서만 보던 현장을 직접 보니 여러 감정이 교차했습니다. ‘나라면 저런 용기가 있었을까?’ 라는 질문을 나에게 계속 던져 보았고, 오늘의 대한민국을 위해 희생하신 분들에게 너무 감사한 마음이 들었습니다. 또한, 이번 유라시아 시민대장정을 통해 대한민국을 많이 알려야겠다는 생각했어요. - LIM Jin-Ho

  The 2019 Eurasia Expedition is a "Possibility". I discovered the potential both of Busan as the starting point of Eurasia railway and of myself. I met a wider world with the members of various ages and fields on the railway to Berlin, found myself, and got closer to my dreams and goals.

  나에게 2019 유라시아 시민대장정이란 “가능성” 입니다. 이번 대장정을 통하여 유라시아 대륙횡단 철도의 시발점으로서의 도시 부산의 가능성과, 저의 가능성 모두를 발견할 수 있었어요. 다양한 연령대, 다양한 분야의 단원들과 철길로 베를린까지 가는 동안 넓은 세계를 직면하고, 스스로에 대해서 고찰하며 지금까지 몰랐던 나 자신을 발견할 수 있었고, 꿈과 목표를 찾을 수 있었습니다. - KIM Min-Sung

  The 2019 Eurasia Expedition is a "Dream". I can’t forget how I was excited when I applied for the Eurasia Expedition. I felt like I was still dreaming on the day I passed an interview and everything gradually became real, till the opening ceremony. Fortunately, every participant could finish the long journey safely. Everything during 25 day-long journey felt like a dream. I’m so happy that I was in part of my dream, my dream-like Eurasia Expedition.

  나에게 2019 유라시아 시민대장정은 “꿈” 입니다. 유라시아 시민대장정에 지원할 때의 설레임을 잊을 수 없어요. 합격 통보를 받았던 날 얼떨떨했고, 출정식 날 차츰 현실을 느끼기 시작했으며, 다행히 모두가 안전하게 대장정을 마치게 되었습니다. 길었던 24박 25일 간의 모든 여정이 ‘꿈’처럼 느껴지네요. 꿈이었고, 꿈같았던 유라시아 시민대장정에 참가할 수 있어 참 행복했습니다. 감사합니다. - PARK Eun-Ji

  The 2019 Eurasia Expedition to me is a “Valuable experience.” People around me were concerned, because I started this journey instead of getting a job. Through this journey, I improved myself and became more challenging and braver. I was very proud as a private diplomat who represented Korea and Busan, which led me the wider point of view. I also learned a lot from the group life helping each other. I will always remember the Korean history I learned and felt on the very site.

  나에게 2019 유라시아 시민대장정은 “돈보다 갚진 경험”입니다. 취업을 포기하고 선택한 대장정이라 주변에서 많이들 걱정했지만, 더 성장할 수 있었고 도전하는 용기도 생겼어요. 대한민국과 부산을 대표하는 민간외교사절단으로서 자부심을 가질 수 있었고, 더 넓은 시야로 세상을 바라볼 수 있게 되었습니다. 팀원들과 동거동락하며 많이 배웠습니다! 현장에서 보고 느꼈던 우리나라의 역사를 잊지 않겠습니다. - LIM Jin-Ho
