ABOUT Holi

 Holi is an Indian spring festival also known as a festival of colors, love and equality. In recent times, the festival has become very popular in different parts of the world and is being celebrated in more than 100 cities in the world as a spring celebration of love, frolic and colors.

 The festival is mostly celebrated by splashing colors on each other and dancing/hugging together regardless of your age, race, gender, nationality or social status. The festival signifies equality and love for all, the arrival of spring, end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair ruptured relationships. It is also a

national holiday in India.

홀리란?

 홀리 HOLI 는 색채의 축제 또는 사랑과 평등의 축제라고 알려진 인도의 봄 축제다. 최근에는 전 세계적으로 유명해져 봄이면 100여 개의 도시에서 사랑, 기쁨, 색채의 홀리 축제를 만끽한다.

 홀리 축제에는 눈길을 사로잡는 물감은 물론, 연령과 인종, 성별, 국적, 사회적 지위를 막론하고 함께 춤을 추고 끌어안는 사람들로 가득하다. 인도의 공휴일이기도 한 홀리 축제는 모두를 위한 평등과 사랑을 강조하며 봄의 시작과 겨울의 끝을 알린다. 축제 기간 동안은 모두가 웃고 즐기며 지나간 일은 잊고 용서하며 어긋났던 관계를 바로잡는다.
 

Holi Busan Background 

 Holi Busan was started in 2011 by a few Indian community members. Since then it has become one of the biggest expat events not only in Busan but all over Korea. The festival was first started to spread multicultural activities in Korea and Busan was intentionally selected as the venue despite it being the secondlargest city in Korea since there were not many global activities in Busan. Since then, the festival has become a representative festival of Busan.

 Holi Busan is organized by the Indian community in Korea. The organizers celebrate the festival every year for the sole purpose of cultural awareness and to represent the image of Busan as a global city in Korea. Since last year, Bollywood Restaurant has been organizing the event and has made the event FREE for everyone to attend and enjoy. Organizers have also changed the previous name from “Holi Hai” to "Holi Busan" since it sounded more hip/modern and have also officially registered the name. The venue has also been moved to Gwangalli Beach from Haeundae beach due to its geographical location. The festival is a non-profit event, so most of the funds are covered by community members and the Bollywood Indian Restaurant at Gwangalli Beach. In our previous years celebrating the Holi festival in Busan, we have seen kids as young as 2-3 years old to grandmothers participating and cherishing the festival. Last year, we had participants from more than 20 countries.

홀리 부산의 시작 

 홀리 부산은 2011년 인도 커뮤니티 멤버들이 처음 시작했다. 그 때부터 홀리는 부산을 넘어 전국적으로 사랑 받는 외국인 축제 중 하나가 되었다. 한국에서 다문화 활동을 널리 퍼뜨리기 위해 기획된 홀리 축제는 한국 제2의 도시이면서도 글로벌 행사가 많지 않았던 부산을 축제 장소로 선정했다. 이후 홀리는 부산의 대표적인 축제가 되었다. 

 홀리 부산은 한국 내 인도 커뮤니티가 주최하는 행사로, 주최자들은 문화 인식을 고양시키고 글로벌 도시 부산의 이미지를 널리 알리기 위해 매년 축제를 기획, 개최하고 있다. 작년부터는 광안리의 발리우드 레스토랑이 모두가 참가해 즐길 수 있는 무료 이벤트도 개최해 오고 있다. 또한 기존의 “홀리 하이”라는 이름을 보다 힙하고 현대적인 “홀리 부산”으로 바꾸어 공식적으로 등록했다. 장소도 기존의 해운대해수욕장에서 광안리해수욕장으로 바뀌었다. 축제는 비영리 행사로, 대부분의 비용은 커뮤니티 멤버들과 광안리 발리우드 레스토랑에서 지원한다. 작년 부산에서는 2-3살 어린 아이들부터 노인들까지 다양한 연령층의 사람들이 참여해 홀리 축제를 즐겼으며, 전세계 20여 개가 넘는 국적의 사람들이 참가했다.

Holi Busan

 Holi Busan, 2019 was held on May 5, 2019 (Children’s day) at Gwangalli Beach. The preparation and distribution of color packages was started from 11:30 A.M. with band performances. The color throwing celebration along with different performances was scheduled from 2 P.M. until 5 P.M. This year the festival was witnessed by around 1,000 participants representing more than 30 nationalities. Participants from all different regions of Korea come to celebrate this festival every year. 

 The festival was being promoted by the Busan Tourism Organization (BTO). In collaboration with BTO, the organizers have prepared guidebooks for participants which included Busan tourist info and discount coupons for various places in Busan. The festival was FREE for everyone to attend and the organizing expenses were borne by the Bollywood Indian Restaurant along with the official event partner: BusanCoupon, a social commerce company providing services to expats in Korea.  Like every year, this year also had number of performances from International DJ’s to foreign performers to Indian traditional performances. Some of the major attractions were the Belly Dance Team and the renowned Bulgarian singer who was part of The Voice of Bulgaria in year 2018.

 Holi Busan 2019 was an amazing success and participants have enjoyed the festivals a lot. The city of Busan has been filled with cheer and joy on this event day by dousing friends with color, and dancing the day away with live music! We as organizers are so happy to see that thousands of people joined the celebration by spreading a message of equality, happiness, and peace.

홀리 부산 2019 

 홀리 부산 2019는 5월 5일 어린이날 광안리해수욕장에서 개최됐다. 오전 11시 30분, 밴드 공연과 함께 물감 준비와 분배가 시작되었고 무대 공연과 물감 던지기 행사가 오후 2시부터 5시까지 이어졌다. 올해는 30여 개 이상 국가 출신의 1,000여 명이 넘는 사람들이 참가했다. 매년 전국 방방곡곡의 내, 외국인들이 홀리 축제를 즐기기 위해 부산으로 모인다. 

 부산관광공사 역시 홀리 축제를 홍보하고 있다. 주최자들은 부산관광공사와 협력해 부산 관광 정보와 부산 내 다양한 곳에서 사용 가능한 할인 쿠폰이 포함된 안내책자를 제작했다. 참가자들은 무료로 축제를 즐길 수 있었고, 공식적인 축제 파트너인 한국 내 외국인 대상 소셜커머스 회사 부산쿠폰(BusanCoupon)과 발리우드 레스토랑이 축제 비용을 부담했다. 다양한 언어로 부산에 대한 정보와 행사에 대해 알아보려면 웹사이트 www.busancoupon.com 을 이용하면 된다.

 홀리 부산 2019는 축제를 멋지게 즐긴 관객들과 함께 성공적으로 마무리되었다. 서로 물감을 던지고 라이브 음악에 춤을 추면서 부산을 웃음과 즐거움으로 가득 채웠다! 주최자로서 수천 명의 사람들이 평등, 행복, 평화라는 메시지를 전파하며 함께 어울리는 모습을 볼 수 있어 정말 기뻤다.

 I am Ami Arora and an avid festival lover. I have attended almost all of the major festivals in Korea along with some major international festivals too. I have also been organizing many events in Korea myself from last few years. I have spent more than 6 years in Korea and half of which is in Busan so in a sense it is my second hometown. Coming from a huge country like India, I was living far away from ocean so I enjoy the beaches here in Busan along with leisure water sports. 

 아미 아로라는 열렬한 축제광이다. 한국의 웬만한 메이저 축제들과 국제 축제들을 섭렵했다. 그리고 지난 몇 년간은 직접 축제를 기획하기도 했다. 한국에서 이제 6년이 넘는 시간을 보냈고, 그 중 반 넘게 부산에서 살아 부산이 이제 제2의 고향처럼 느껴진다. 내 고향 인도는 땅덩어리가 커서 바다와 멀리 떨어져 살았기 때문에 부산에 사는 동안은 최대한 바다와 수상스포츠를 즐기며 살고 있다.
